Fraser River - Winter Park Fly Fisher Winter Park, CO
If you would like to fish what many consider to be some of the most pristine freestone waters in Colorado, you do not have to travel far. Just 1 1/2 hrs outside of Golden lies one of Dwight D Eisenhower’s favorite fishing sites. Rainbows, browns, brookies, are all available for your angling pleasure. Oh and did I mention there are big ones in there.
Trip Captain: Greg Frick >> Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
We will be meeting in the Wooly Mammoth Lot at I-70 and the Morrison exit at 8 a.m. 4/25/20
What to Bring: Bring layers of warm clothes. Wool socks work best for cold water. Try to wear clothes that are natural in color.
From the Meet Up we will drive about 1hr. and 15 min. to Fraser. We typically meet in the Safeway parking lot before we head out. There are a couple of miles to fish between Winter Park and Fraser. The Canyon above Tabernash is also a fantastic place to fish but requires about 1/2 mile hike down to the river. It will not likely be open for this trip. Not hard but you will be at 9000 feet.
I am keeping an eye on the flows and will update the site if any changes need to be made so please stay tuned. This trip is planned for before runoff and after Ice off. The fish should be hungry.
Editor NOTE: The Fly Shop at the south end of Fraser has some good fly selection and advice.
If you are driving up, we will be heading up I-70 to the empire exit./ hwy 40. Take HWY 40 to the safeway in Fraser. Fraser is about 2 miles north of Winter Park.
