Trip Captain: Dan Hogan
The Arkansas River is a designated Gold Water fishery. HPD members who love fishing the Arkansas River around Salida know this trip will get the year started with a bang. Trip captain is Dan Hogan who can be reached at 303-880-8710 or email@example.com.
Room Accommodations: Silver Ridge Lodge (www.silverridgelodge.com) or 719-539-2553. Rooms are $65 for single queen; $70 for 2 queens and $99 for a suite with 3 queen beds. Taxes and fees are extra. The motel is 2 blocks from Ark Anglers right on Hwy 50. No frills just the basic clean room. Everyone is responsible for making their own reservation.
Camping/Trailer Options: A very short drive down river from Salida is the Four Seasons RV Park www.fourseasonsresort.com or 719-539-3084 where several HPD members will be staying. It sits on the banks of the Arkansas River. Take Hwy 50 out of town. Just a bit farther downstream: FREE BLM campground. Vault toilet & boat ramp. No other facilities.
Meals: Friday thru Sunday starts at the Patio Pancake Restaurant located on Hwy 50 a few blocks East from the Silver Ridge Lodge. Meeting time at the restaurant is 7:30 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lunch is usually on the river and dinner meeting spots will be decided each day.
On-River-Clinic is being hosted by Ark Anglers: Friday April 12. Cost is $125 per HPD member with a $1.50 Parks charge for a total of $126.50 per person. Lunch and snacks included. Payment due when you book one of the 6 spots that are available. No refunds.
What to expect from the 1-day clinic: Meet at Ark Anglers at 9am. Guide Stuart Andrews (719-539-4223) will then make fly suggestions (you do not have to buy flies) and then we head to the river. Stuart will answer questions, watch your casting and basically be as helpful as he can. “I’ve got some fun new wrinkles that will up your game,” Stuart said. Once finished with orientation, Stuart will split the HPD members into groups and place each group on the river. Cutoff date to sign up for the clinic will be Wednesday, March 21, at the HPD South meeting.
Fishing: If a 4-day outing doesn’t fit your schedule, as long as we know you are coming (even for a day) we will make sure you hook up with club members who will be there ahead of you. This river has a great Caddis hatch, but often overlooked are the BWO hatches that happen in April.
New HPD Members: This is a chance to introduce yourself to the club. We will do all we can to ensure that you feel welcome on this and all of our trips. We need to know you are out there. Be sure to speak up at the meetings. Or you can call or email me at the contact info at the top.
Please post a note showing your interest. Attend our North and South club meetings this month and in March to pair up with members for a ride or to share a room.
